What is the main function of a turbocharger?

This means that the same engine can output more power after being supercharged. Take the 1.8T turbocharged engine we most often encounter as an example. After supercharging, the power can reach the level of a 2.4L engine, but the fuel consumption is not much higher than that of a 1.8L engine. On the other hand, it is to improve fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions.

A turbocharger can also make your car faster!

The earliest turbochargers were used in sports cars or formula cars, so in some racing games with limited engine displacement, the engine can get more power. As we all know, the engine outputs power by burning fuel in the cylinder, because the input amount of fuel is limited by the amount of air sucked into the cylinder, so the output power of the engine will also be limited. If the engine is running at its best, then the output can only be increased by compressing more air into the cylinders to refill the fuel, then the combustion will do more work. Therefore, in the prior art, the turbocharger is the only mechanical device that can increase the output power of the engine at the same operating efficiency.

How does a turbocharger work?

The turbocharger's job is to compress more of the air that flows into the engine's cylinders. When air is compressed, the oxygen molecules pack more tightly together. The extra air means more fuel can be added for the same size naturally aspirated engine. This then produces increased mechanical power and improves the overall efficiency of the combustion process. As a result, the engine size of a turbocharged engine can be reduced, resulting in better packaging, reduced weight and overall improved fuel economy.
